February 9, 2025 - INSCRIPTIONS FROM THE HEART

Cheryl Zamora

The idea of having the attitude of Christ is about embodying the attitudes that are attributed to our Lord Jesus Christ. These attitudes can serve as guiding light in our daily life and will help us to navigate challenges and interactions with others in a positive and meaningful way. Moreover it will lead to one’s personal growth and a deeper connection with your faith and values.

As I read His Word, I found some of Jesus’ attitudes: humility (putting others before oneself and being modest in one's own importance), compassion (showing deep empathy and concern for others), patience (being tolerant and understanding, even in difficult situations), forgiveness (letting go of grudges and being willing to forgive others) and love (loving others unconditionally, regardless of their actions or circumstances). Tough to follow!

Cultivating the attitude of Christ is a personal and ongoing journey that involves developing habits and mindsets aligned with the attitudes Jesus exemplified. I also learned about some practical steps that can help us along the way: (1) Study Scripture – regularly reading and meditating on the Bible can help us understand the life and teachings of Jesus – pay attention to the gospels, which detail His actions and words. (2) Prayer: developing a consistent prayer life; prayer is a way to communicate with God, seek guidance, and align our heart with His will. (3) Self-Reflection: regularly reflect on your thoughts, actions, and attitudes and consider how they align with the attitudes of Christ and identify areas for improvement. (4) Serve Others: look for opportunities to serve others selflessly. Acts of kindness and service can help cultivate humility, compassion, and love. This is also our theme for this year – SERVE! (5) Forgiveness: make a conscious effort to forgive others, letting go of grudges and resentment. This can help you develop a heart of compassion and grace. (6) Embrace Humility: Practice humility by putting others before yourself and recognizing your own limitations. (7) Love Unconditionally: Make a conscious effort to love others, regardless of their actions or circumstances. I know there are more that we can do.

I believe that developing and having the attitudes of Christ is a lifelong journey that requires dedication and a willingness to grow and change.
