Favour to the Humble

Welcome to February! This means we’re going into a new sermon series and this month, it’s all about serving in humility. It’s great to be on God’s side isn’t it? As believers, so many of us readily go to the passage that says, “for if God is for us, who can be against us” (Romans 8:31) as if to say we’re unstoppable! It’s a great reminder to place our faith in Christ for sure, but let’s not take it too literally and too far. Let’s remember to be humble. 

Because imagine being opposed by God. Nobody wants that right? Well, you better watch your pride! As 1 Peter 5:5a tells us, “Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’” This gives pride a whole new perspective doesn't it? Not only is pride not good for us, but God actually is opposed to us being prideful.  

So church, we begin February, let’s clothe ourselves with humility as we deal with each other as to not be opposed by God, but rather receive His favour. Let’s consider others more important than ourselves as we serve them as Jesus did, as we are tested in this, let’s rely on the strength God gives us to be humble.
