To Watch & Wait
As a kid growing up in the church, one for the scariest parables in the Bible was the parable of the ten virgins. If you're not familiar with the parable, it talks about the second coming of Christ, the bridegroom, and how two groups of virgins wait in very different ways. Long story short, one group was prepared for the arrival of the bridegroom and the other group was not.
This parable scared me because it made me reflect on my personal readiness to meet with the Lord Jesus. The well prepared virgins, called “wise”, remind us that being ready is important. The unprepared were called “foolish”. So as I waited for His return, will I be ready? Have I been a faithful bride, servant, and follower?
As individuals and as a church, are we ready for the return of our Lord Jesus? As we celebrate Christmas, let's remember that Jesus was not just a baby born in Bethlehem. He is the long-awaited Messiah of Old, the King of kings, and the Lord of lords. His return is imminent. The world was unprepared once already, so let's do our best to prepare for His second coming by living a life of faith, of service, being perceptive of the times. Jesus is coming!
To God be the glory!
