December 1, 2024 - INSCRIPTIONS FROM THE HEART
By: Ptr. Immanuel Garcera
Any wise person in the present would tell you that it’s valuable to us to not only look forward to the future, but also to look back to the past to consider it. Yet, many Christians would agree with you if you said that you would rather read the New Testament rather than the Old Testament. Some say it’s full of uninteresting facts like genealogies, or records of measurements, or even repeated accounts of history. But without the Old Testament, how were people supposed to make sense of the New?
The Old Testament establishes the fall of man, the punishment for sin, our need for a saviour, and many other things. For if we simply had the New Testament, how would we know that Jesus needed to die and fits the criteria for the suffering servant, the Messiah who takes away the sin of the world? As Jesus Himself states: “do not think that I have come to abolish Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.” (Matthew 5:17)
Church, as we look forward this Holiday season to celebrating the birth of our Lord Jesus, to the things He has promised to do, let’s not neglect the things He has done and continue to actively do in our lives. This December, as we connect the dots between the Old and New Testaments, my hope and prayer is that we will gain a richer appreciation for God’s overarching plan of Salvation and the centrality of Jesus Christ.
To God be the glory!
