May 14, 2023 - INSCRIPTIONS FROM THE HEART

For some people it is so easy to jump into the bandwagon of free salvation by grace through faith. Simply translated, be sorry and turn away from a lifestyle of sin, put your trust in nothing but in the Lord, accept the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour and Lord and His finished work on the cross. Say the ‘prayer’ and you’re born again into God’s family. However what your life produces after should verify whether or not your faith is genuine.
For the most part a vast majority of Christians (me included) find it difficult and challenging to set my heart on things above (as instructed to believers in Christ in Colossians 3:1-4). We couldn’t help but notice the materialistic lifestyle especially here in North America including the consumerist mindset -- I am always overwhelmed by the merchandise at Costco. God’s Word does not say possessions are evil or that it’s wrong for Christians to be rich. It has several sobering warnings that “good things” and possessions can rival one’s loyalty, trust and affection for God. Where your treasure is, there your heart is also, says Jesus. He encourages us to use worldly wealth as an eternal investment by using them to bring people to Christ. Do we possess or are we possessed by our possessions?
Remember, being ready to give up some, half, most or everything we have is not a one-time deal. It is a series of “Yes, Lord, yes, Lord, yes, yes, Lord” over our lifetime. Let us get a grip on Colossians 3:1-4…praising and thanking the Lord will be much sweeter!
