January 8, 2023 - INSCRIPTIONS FROM THE HEART
By Abby Zamora-Cheng
When I read the account of Jesus calling His first disciples to follow Him, one thing that stood out was the men's "immediate" response to Jesus' invitation. They literally dropped everything they had to follow this guy they really knew nothing about. The disciples' faith was evident in that they followed Jesus with a "conviction of things not seen" (Hebrews 11:1).
It made me think of my own response to Jesus' call to follow Him. I have the benefit of having the Bible at my fingertips at all times. I know what Jesus has done and what He is capable of, and yet I drag my feet when it comes to answering His call to follow Him. "I don't know enough about the Bible to disciple anyone;" "I'm too busy with school/work;" "I'm a mom now;" etc.
If those four men had been as wishy-washy as me when it comes to answering God's call for commitment, they would never have been able to experience up close Jesus' amazing power, wisdom, and compassion for the lost. God has been teaching me through my life that His work will not be stopped by my unwillingness to join Him, but I will be missing out on so much if I don't get out of my comfort zone and follow Him. I pray that this coming year, we at CEAC drop our nets and follow Jesus into the unknown! He has so much in store for us, for His glory and our good.
