September 8, 2024 - INSCRIPTIONS FROM THE HEART
By: Pastor Stuart Brown
Every once in a while especially during the spring and summer months and going home at a late hour at night, I will occasionally see people walking or even running alone. Considering how some criminally-minded individuals may prey on these people frightens me.
But then, I realized if these people walk or run in the light along a major street and someone attacks them, other people would quickly and easily see it and hopefully, come running to these peoples’ aid. It reminds me of the value of light. Light is essential so that we can see how to perform a task or make physical progress. Of course, it equally provides a sense of security that if someone intends to harm us, we can easily get the help we need. The result is a boost of confidence and motivation to complete the work or even walk or run at night. It is a sad fact that many who commit crimes seek to do this in darkness, especially around unguarded houses, commercial and public buildings.
Light exposes as well as it reveals, protects, and motivates. God Himself is light; His Son Jesus is called the “light of the world” and all believers who are His disciples are called to live as light in the world (Matthew 5:14-15 NLT). God’s word reminds us that we need to live out the light by our words and action. By doing so, we reveal our God of Light to those who live in moral and spiritual darkness. God calls us to journey in life in the light of His pure and holy presence. As we seek to walk intimately with God, our lives will absorb more and more of His glorious radiance.
Please reflect on this: Am I walking in the brilliant unfading light of God’s presence? Am I hiding God’s light or am I shining forth His light as a result of my growing faith relationship with Jesus? Are others able to see the light of God because of my life testimony?
