1 John 1:9 (NASB)

9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1. The condition is clear — “if we confess” our sins to God. Confession is a whole-heated admission and acknowledgement of who we are, we are sinners saved by grace! Normally confession is expressed through our words, and certainly nothing is wrong with this, but it should never be limited nor be confined to its verbal expression only, the heart must be engaged. We read in Jeremiah 17:9-10 (NASB)

9 “The heart is more deceitful than all else. And is desperately sick; Who can understand it?

10 “I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind,

Even to give to each man according to his ways,

According to the results of his deeds.

2.  God’s provision is so comforting: God is faithful and righteous to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from  all unrighteousness. “Here the phrase is virtually a single concept (faithful-and-righteous). It indicates that God’s response toward those who confess their sins will be in accordance with His nature and His gracious commitment to His people” (NASB Study Bible Notes).

His faithfulness and righteousness restores our communion with Him every time we get to be destructed and interrupted by sin but we should never allow sin to knock you down! Remember always that God is faithful-and-righteous to help us get back up.
